milk seems so... "anabolic"

Its impossible to quantify the effect, but it seems that when my diet includes milk (usually 1 litre of semi-skimmed per day, 500cals), I tend towards appearing leaner and more muscular than when I don't drink it (calories approximately the same).

I don't know why milk has this effect - its certainly not the protein (id get that anyway), nor the calories. Some sources relate calcium intake to fat metabolism, but apparently more recent studies tend to disagree. Maybe it positively effects my sleep? Maybe the carbs have a cell-volumising effect that I would lack in my otherwise fairly low-carb diet. I dont know.

Does anyone else find that milk has a certain, /je ne sais qua/ ?
