I think that I have even read that it makes you store that fat more in the belly area. Not entirely sure about that.
Very hard exercise w/o enough downtime will also cause elevated cortisol levels. Case in point: In October and November last year I was working myself very hard and really needed a break. Along came the Thanksgiving holiday - I had family in town so didn't do much (any) lifting etc. I did however eat like a beast and lay around alot for a better part of that week and LOST weight!
Not really recommending it as a plan - and I don't know if that would be typical - but it just seemed to me to be a dramatic example of how stress can effect the body.
Seems like HARD work about 3x/week works best for me no matter what I eat. That's just me though!
