Well, hi.

I've been putting this off for a while, but it's probably time to start. My next year of university is a complete joke, like 3 hours of lectures a week, and with all this free time I've decided it's time I finally do something about my fitness and musculature.

I'm your typical skinny ectomorph with the annoying fat around the stomach. I do a lot of walking, but hardly ever run or jog or do any kind of proper training. I've also read so many fitness books that I feel lost - sort of information overloaded - whatever I read, there's someone else contradicting it.

Since I just have a feeling that Pavel is on the money - his logical style impresses me, and almost everything he says seems to make sense to my uneducated mind - I figured this was the best place to start. Same old; I want to cut down on body fat, build up muscle, especially on the upper body, and so on. So, if anyone could drop a few suggestions, that'd be great. I'm just not sure where to start; traditional bodybuilding, kettlebell stuff, bodyweight, running, sprinting...it's just so damned overwhelming. For what it's worth, I'd rather be doing one-arm snatches than deadlifts, and I'd prefer to be lean and muscular rather than tremendously bulky (and yeah, I know how unlikely it is that a hardgainer can do that, etc) and if I have to ask advice from the Internet, I'd rather do it from the more "enlightened" party members than the *expletive* personal trainers at the local franchised gym.

(As I recall from my brief stint at the gym, my bodyfat was somewhere around 12.4 when I started, not sure if that's of any use, and I've read P2P and Kettlebell Challenge. I have a bunch of weights lying around at home and access to a gym, but kettlebells are not exactly in vogue down here.)

Thanks for your time. I figured this forum was more appropriate than strength and conditioning.
