Steve, hows the Anabolic Diet coming?

This was the reason I got off the diet. While at college I just could not get in enough calories - then again, I didn't have a car.

I still dont have a car (wrecked it, damnit), so I'm forced to eat healthy on what I can get. This means the local gas station, with expired milk and eggs, our cafeteria (not much for healthy stuff besides salad & turkey on wheat), and stuff I get when my room mates go get groceries - which is about once a month as they eat out 3 meals a day.

I've found some things out though:
1)First, protein will be your best friend. Easy to get between classes and its not complete crap.

2)Places like Chik-fil-a have decent chicken salads you can get
3) If you can work it, get a mini fridge, and a little freezer. If I could only get one, I'd get a fridge. This helps with room mates eating all your stuff. The little freezer is so you can buy meat in bulk and store it there.

4) Apples, oranges, and other fruit that lasts a while you can buy fresh, in bulk, and keep in the fridge (last longer). Other stuff like blue berries and vegetables get frozen.

5) I've found v8 GREAT for getting nutrients in. It's not the best stuff, but I really enjoy it for good calories. I get the low sodium tomato kind, and the lite fruit kind.

6) Wal-mart (and some other places) sell steaks in a box. Granted, these steaks are pretty puny, and whoever makes them puts this damned red dye in them so you can never tell when they are cooked, but its better than eating chicken & chops for 4 years.

7) Organic peanut butter!
8) I eat alot of raw almonds and some other nuts. They last years as long as you dont open them
9) Beef jerky. I've heard some not so delightful things about the major brands, and i've yet to find a good one. there might be some around your place - good luck.

10) Look online for meat places. there is a web site (cant remember what it is) that tells you where free range beef farms in your area are. You can go to them and get it in bulk (the little freezer is useful here).

11) To save on money, get a quality water bottle. I just ordered one from SIGG. It's metal, so no worries about the crap in plastic bottles. One of those filters you put on your tap is good too, saves money on bottled water.

12) Eggs. I eat alot of these suckers.
13) Cheese. You can freeze this stuff too.
14) Fish oil, flaxseed oil, virgin olive oil
15) Uncle Sam's cereal (if you eat grains). Its got flaxseeds in it and is whole grain. I like it. Cheap too.
16) Milk & cream
17) Chicken & ground beef
18) Those little bagged salads & bagged spinach

Im sure there are other things that im forgetting. The biggest thing you can do is learn to cook if you cant already. This is really good for mixing things up. Chili and stuff can be good too if you make it right.

The best thing would be get your room mates to eat healthy. this would really make things easier. I however, have failed miserably at this.

If i think of anything else worth mentioning ill post it. If you have found anything particularly useful for eating healthy let me know
