MessageMost of the supp's you are talking about are over hyped and just a marketing scheme, but there are things like Whey Protein and Fish Oil that can be very beneficial to the average trainee.
You also have to realize that the guys you speak of had GREAT GENETICS. Us mere mortals can use all the help we can get to achieve the same things they were able to do naturally. I'm not saying it is impossible to do it without them, it is just easier and more convenient to use them.
