Oh young Jedi, so much for you to learn.
And, don't feel dumb. It's not a big deal deal to most in our culture, so it doesn't get talked about.
You mentioned a real farmer would never feed a cow a cow another cow?
Wrong.
Up until the late nineties, cows at factory farms were routinely feed...parts of other cows mixed with the corn they have not evolved to digest. With the discovery of Mad Cow Disease, this was outlawed.......except for blood and fat.
Also, there is difference between "free range" and "pasture raised"
Example: in th case of chicken. Most free range chickens are raised for the first 5 weeks in a shed, much like their factory raised counter parts, but given a few more square inches of turf. They can not go outside, for fear of catching a disease since no anti-biotics can be used, at week 6 a small door on the shed is opened where they can go outside if they "choose" and range free. But by now they are programmed to be inside so few ever venture out. At the end of week 7 they're butchered.
Seriously, if your interested in where your food comes from.
Go to my blog and pick up a copy of "The Omnivore's Dilemma", it's available in paperback or audio (my preferred medium). It's only like $9.
My answer to your Argentinian beef, if you live in Argentina, go for it. Other wise find a local rancher on eatwild.com and buy from him.
