It does keep it up and it depends on the carbs and insulin response. Any diet that reduces calories works-period. The reason I like Warrior Diet, Intermittant Fasting etc is you are under less constant load of insulin; that matters as excessive insulin is now being thought to lead to negative gene expression (cancer etc).
Eating healthy is good but fatloss is just about calories. With healthy food you get to eat more. With minimalist diets you educate your body so that healthy natural food tastes better. By eating most of your calories at once you minimize excessive insulin.
But cuz its just calories that count you could totally eat fast food as long as the calorie count allows for a negative energy balance you will lose weight. Done it a bunch with clients. i would prefer they eat healthier choices but being lean and loseing their fat maters more to me than just "clean" eating. Many sumo wrestlers eat very clean foods-sushi, veggies lots of natural grain-and they are as fat as houses. I trained a lawyer years ago that told me he wouldnt eat healthy- I said i didnt care-just count calories and you will do fine. He ate what he wanted lost 40 lbs and got off all his meds. Told his doc he ate healthy and did lots of cardio when he really ate fast food and swung kettlebells-docs test results showed him healthy as a horse.
Eating healthy like suppliments is just as much about marketing as it is about health. Lots of sups dont work. Many organic foods arent any healthier and many are worse.
Long term get lean train smart and see where your body wants to be. For most being well built really means Bruce Lee, Brad Pitt in Fight Club, Ryan Renolds in Blade 3, Jean St. Pierre etc. All those guys are light but very buff when training. BUT people get bent looking at HYOOGE bodybuilders and the are stuck with weird notions.
If you find that you eat well get lean but dont get as buff as you think (you start thinking about eating 6x a day to be big) you might want to have your free testosterone checked. I have had lots of client add 10 pounds of muscle and get leaner and be in better moods once they fixed that issue. If you eat and train smart and dont get you results look there.
Let you body tell you how much muscle to carry first then worry once you are lean enough if you need to worry about your metabolism staying up. If you do ETK and spread your ladders throughout the day instead of doing them all at once that will keep your metabolism up. If you dont get buff enough se the above :) zzzzzzzzzz
