I've been on it for several months in the past, and just started it again about 2 weeks ago.
The past time I was on it i dropped a good amount of BF and gained some muscle, though i wasn't training heavily. mostly rehab with some other stuff thrown in.
My goal was not to drop body fat but if happened anyways. Gained a bit of muscle though i wasn't trying to - i was just doing the maintnence phase of it.
It is a really good diet imo. I feel very clear mentally and don't get tired in the middle of the day like i do with a lot of carbs. The first 2 weeks sort of suck as you are switching from carb to fat burning, and you usually crash at some point (feeling veeery tired, maybe even like you have a cold).
I'm getting on it again to see if i can't gain some mass w/ it this time around.
I'd definitely look into it, whatever your goals are. There is a great (~300pg, though there isn't much past page 50 that you really need to know) thread in the nutrition forum at t-nation about it. some of the guys have been on it since the 90's and really know there stuff.
You don't NEED the book to follow it, though it is nice to know exactly why you are doing what, and how it works.
