MessageHi Dave,
I was a consistent 40 a day smoker and even got silly at one point and got to 60 a day (normally when i came back from France loaded with cheap cigs).
I stopped 3 years ago. It took a huge amount of effort. I probably had 3 serious attempts that lasted several months and then started again. As you probably know i also had numerous less serious attemtprs. I tried everything - cold turkey, gum, patches, inhaler, fake cigarette thingy, accupuncture. One after another it didn't quite work out and i thought i was being committed as well.
Eventually i was so sick with myself and starting to feel physically terrible from smoking. I was recommended this little free online book: http://www.hypnos.info/book3/book3.html I then saved some money and went on the Alan Carr course http://allencarr.com/central/ - best thing about that is that you even smoke during the course! Counterintuitive but you will if you go on it find out why. I tell you three years on the best investment i could have ever made - i walked out and have never smoked since. To put more of success twist on it i live in Switzerland where everyone smokes and i am still never tempted.
Hope this helps and best of luck as i really know how difficult it is.
Richard
