I followed the diet from this January through the end of April, and had pretty good results, but have since switched.
PROS:
- lost about 25 lbs
- totally cleaned up my diet (dropped all process foods/soda and greatly increased my intake of organic fruits/veggies, grass-fed beef, raw dairy products, raw nuts)
- lost my cravings for sweet/salty foods during the day
- realized what it means to be truly hungry vs. just wanting to eat
- had much easier time planning/preparing meals for the week
CONS:
- I had trouble keeping the intensity up in my afternoon weight training, and thus made very little strength gains, despite eating raw fruit/veggies during the day and consuming a quality post-workout recovery meal
- I think I wasn't really consuming enough calories...often just couldn't stuff it all in at night
- My 6pm evening meal made me just want to go right to sleep (no energy to play w/ the kids before bed)
- My fat loss flatlined after 3 months on the diet
Cycling between high-carb and high-fat days on the WD made me realize that I operate best in a low- to no-insulin environment, so I have since switched to the Anabolic Diet and so far am loving it. I have dropped a few more lbs, but increased my strength, am having great workouts, and am noticeably more muscular and lean.
The WD is pretty solid, but doesn't quite fit with my goals. Also I am starting to question the science (or lack thereof) behind the WD. I have been reading a lot of nutrition/fitness articles and testimonials lately on T-nation, etc., and it just seems like there is far more credible research behind the more "traditional" bodybuilding diet and training, particularly testimonials from people who have the kind of physique I want.
