My goals? I really didn't have specific goals when WDing other than eating healthy, not spending so much money on eating food at work, and being alert at work. All of these goals were met (with ease), and I was doing PTP, which doesn't (necessarily) call for alot of calories.
The re-educating the pallette thing was the true gift of the diet. My palette can discern muh more subtle tastes and textures than before I began WDing.
Later I started to do Ripptoe's Starting Strength, which is a strength+mass routine, and started to eat 5 times a day, mostly lean protein, fruits, veggies, and 1/2 gallon of milk daily. Almost the other end of the eating spectrum. By keeping starchy carbs out of the equation during the day, I was able to retain alertness during the working hours. And I gained 15 lbs in 2 months. Definitely added some bf, but I was more interested in the strength I was gaining on SS than being skinny. Also, I'm 5'10" and weighed just under 150 a year and a half ago. Now I weigh just over 180.
PTP brought my DL to 230x5 from 135x5 in 3 cycles (previous pr was 160x6). I believe it allowed me to start squating at 180 (just over bw when I began SS). I worked up to 235x3x5 squatting, and 275x5 DL before life happened and I couldn't continue SS b/c of time constraints.
My opinion is you have to eat according to your goals. If I were to go back to ptp I would probably WD again. But if I'm on a weight gaining program, there's no way I'm going to WD. And SS has me thinking that its easier to gain strength on a strength + mass routine than a strictly strength one.
ok, end of life story. hope that helped, feel free to ask anything else if you like.
