What is the benefit of using thick bars for pressing?

A thick bar will mean a drop in poundages more so with a bar 3" until you build more strength in the hands. Using the thick bar for pressing will build wrist and thumb strength and make the regualr bars feel like tooth picks.
If you havnt used one before take it easy as 2.5"- 3" thick bars put alot of strain on the thumb when pressing, and always do it in a power rack incase the bar slips
